On Sunday 11th December 2011, Gerakan Batu Division Service Team had dispatched in a team to Batu area on a purpose to distribute application forms for “Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia”, while on the way via Jalan Ipoh Batu 4, the team discovered that there was an old four-storey shophouse caught on fire at the area, the team immediately went on to assist the fire fighting with the voluntary fire brigades of Batu.

In the midst of the fire fighting, although it took quite a bit of time to search for the fire hydrant, but in the end the fire was managed to be put down with the effort from voluntary fire brigades and also the Sentul Bomba. Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr. Dominic Lau who was at the scene wanted to thank the voluntary fire brigade Chief Chong Keat Voon. Under the leadership of Chong, the voluntary fire brigade was able to respond swiftly in giving assistance to avoid any casualties. This fire brigade was formed by the Gerakan party members.

Dr. Dominic Lau would like to urge the Bomba to have regular inspection on fire hydrant to ensure its normal functionality, in order to avoid any inconvenient during the fire rescue process which may cause unwanted casualty.
