In regard to the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally that is scheduled on 26 February, the city council and police shirk their responsibilities which caused the rally organizer yet to be granted a permission to hold the 10000-strong rally at the Padang MPK, Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr. Dominic Lau urges the law enforcement agencies to be fair to all, if the rally organizer is comply and meet all of the regulations needed to hold a rally, then the law enforcement agencies should issue the permit as soon as possible to let the Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally be held as scheduled. However on the contrary, they each shirk their responsibilities, which under the watchful eyes of the people, the move will be seen as unprofessional and bias. “As Prime Minister had announced earlier to relax the regulation and granting more freedom to the people to hold gatherings, law enforcement agencies should not act in an opposite manner, because the rally is associated with the Australian mining company Lynas to build a rare earth plant at Gebeng, Kuantan and thus deliberate disruptions were used to against the rally. If the rare earth plant can make assurance of the safety that it will not bring any radiation damage, Lynas Corporation need not to be worried about the negative effect that comes along with the rally. The wiser way is that the high-ranking officers of Lynas should set a good example by moving in to stay at the nearby residential areas to act as a strong assurance to the local residents,” said Dominic Lau.
In this regard, Dominic Lau once again wanted to urge the law enforcement agencies to make a swift decision, it is clearly that by each shirking their responsibilities will not solve the current problem. |
