Tan Chuan Koon, the Executive Director of Socio-Economic Development and Research (SEDAR) Institute is a graduate of Languages and Linguistics from University of Malaya (UM). Formerly a teacher in primary & secondary schools, he has also served as Press Secretary to the Minister of Primary Industries from 2003-2004, Press Secretary to the Minister of Energy, Water & Communications from 2004-2006 and promoted as the Political Secretary to the same minister from 2006-2008. From the year 2008-2010, he served as the Senior Secretary to YABhg Tun Dr. Lim Keng Yaik until his appointment as the Executive Director of SEDAR Institute. Tan Chuan Koon was also active in the civil society. He previously served as the Secretary of Penang Chinese School Teachers' Association (1993-1997), Member of Rent Tribunal of Penang (1995-1996), Penang Island Municipal (MPPP) Councillor (1997-1998), Assistant Secretary of the United CHinese School Teachers' Association of Malaysia (Jiao Zong) (1995-1998) and the Chairman of JKKK or also known as Village Development and Security Committee. |
